Sara is a registered physiotherapist and a graduate of the Masters of Physical Therapy program at UBC.  At UBC she was a member of the Physical Therapy Student Society while she attended the program as the graduation representative.  She also graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a degree in kinesiology.  Sara has experience in many areas and with many populations including orthopedics, pediatrics, spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions, and amputees.  Currently, she is working both at LSMC with clients of all ages, from infants to the elderly, and at a child development centre with the pediatric population in the Fraser Valley.  Her main areas of interest are orthopedics, pediatrics, and the neurological population, but she really enjoys working with people of all ages that need help getting back to their previous levels of participation.
 
Since completing her Masters Sara has actively persued further education to increase her skill set and add new treatment and assessment techniques to her "tool box".  She has her Level 1 orthopedic manual therapy certification and she has taken courses in soft tissue release, sensory based motor dysfunction, gait training, home exercise programs, and child trauma.  In the future Sara plans to pursue advanced education in manual therapy and acupuncture/IMS.
 
In her spare time Sara enjoys all sports and physical activities but her passion is softball.  She has played ball for over 20 years and she currently plays on a women's fastpitch team and coed slo-pitch team.  Sara also has a background in aquatics and encourages the use of aquatic therapy in rehabilitation programs because of the many added benefits of exercising in the water.

sofiabio1sofiabio2Sofia is a Registered Physiotherapist and a certified Active Release Technique provider. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa where she focused her studies on exercise science and sport-related injuries. She then headed west to complete her Master of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta where she was an avid member of the Rehabilitation Medicine Student’s Association as the Female Sports Representative.

 

Sofia’s keen interest for sports and orthopaedics have guided her studies and continued her development into these areas as a physiotherapist. Her previous clinical experience and continuing education has provided her with excellent orthopaedic and musculo-skeletal injury management skills for a wide range of injuries and conditions.Sofia hopes to continue to build on these skills with further training in soft tissue techniques, orthopaedic manual therapy levels, acupuncture, and with sporting event involvement.

 

Sofia is an avid snowboarder, swimmer, soccer player, and cyclist. She also enjoys participating in other sports and activities including rugby, hockey, hiking, and traveling. She understands the importance of optimal tissue rehabilitation and maintenance for fitness, sports, and everyday function. She believes that one-on-one treatment, client involvement, and the integration of manual therapy skills, exercise/ stretching education, and electro-therapeutic modalities as appropriate are key for optimal recovery.

 

Fully fluent in English, French, and Spanish, Sofia is able to offer treatment in three languages. Her enthusiasm and motivation for physical activity and wellness and her devotion to her clients’ rehabilitation are her key to success.

lisagLisa has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in Athletic Therapy with distinction from the University of Alberta. Included in her educational pursuits, Lisa acquired her Fellowship from the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy and is certified in Acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. Lisa has also completed several post-graduate courses including Spinal Manipulation, Manual Therapy, Myofascial Release, Orthopaedic courses for the Thorax , Shoulder and Core, Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement Impairment Syndromes, Vestibular Rehabilitation, Continence and Pelvic Floor Re-Education for the female patient, Mobilization of the Nervous System, Post MVA Cervical Dysfunction and Pilates instruction. Her clinical interests include Movement/ Postural Dysfunction, Shoulder, Lumbo-Pelvic and Lower Limb /Pelvic Alignment Disorders, and exercise therapies such as yoga and Pilates. Lisa has worked with a variety of sport teams and athletic events and is an active member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and Orthopedic Division. She was also a member of the BC place medical team during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. She enjoys several recreational activities including yoga, Pilates, downhill mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing and triathlons.

Dr. Cara Barhkam

Dr. Barkham graduated from SFU with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology with a focus on nutrition. She then left for Toronto to complete the four year chiropractic program. When she returned to Vancouver she set up a locum practice covering numerous practitioners in the lower mainland and throughout the province.

Through her locum practice, Dr. Barkham has had the opportunity to see a diverse group of patients, including pregnant women and infants, children, teenagers, adults, seniors, and athletes. Each patient is unique, and as such Dr. Barkham believes in the importance of individualized care, including a combination of chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work including stretching and massage, and therapeutic modalities such as heat and ice.

Chiropractic care can and may help many conditions including pain in the neck, shoulders, mid, and low back, TMJD (jaw pain), headaches, migraines, infantile colic, and many others. Treatments vary according to an individuals needs but may include mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue work, exercises, stretching, ergonomic information, and suggestions on posture and overall health.

Dr. Barkham believes that the human body has a remarkable ability to heal and adapt. As a chiropractor, her goal is to facilitate the body to enable healing, and progress toward optimal health and performance. She gladly welcomes patients questions and looks forward to helping them reach their optimal health goals.

 

jamie rempel, CATC, CSCS

Jamie is the former Athletic Therapist with the BC Lions and the Vancouver Women's Whitecaps. He has instructed Sports First Aid and Athletic Taping for the Sports Medicine Council of BC, and is actively involved in developing a Football 101 program for team trainers involved with Football BC. A firm believer in prevention as the first step to staying healthy, Jamie is actively bringing the issue of sports-related concussion to the forefront of community sports teams.

 

Education

Jamie graduated in 2001 from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors of Human Kinetics, majoring in Exercise Science. After graduation, he moved to Toronto to attend the prestigious Sheridan College, where he completed his post-graduate diploma in Sports Injury Management in 2004. Jamie successfully completed the national certification exams for the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (Canada), the National Athletic Trainers Association (USA), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Int'l).

DR. Soroush Khoshroo

soroushpicDr. Khoshroo graduated from Carson Graham Secondary School in North Vancouver in 2000. He then attended university of British Columbia and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics. He continued his studies at UBC under a second bachelor in Human Kinetics (Kinesiology). During this time his growing love and interest in manual therapy inspired him to attend the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon to obtain his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree.

Dr. Khoshroo is fully certified in Active Release Technique (ART), and has knowledge working with Graston and Kinesio-taping. Having played university level soccer and competitive level tennis for the past 15 years, he is well aware of the many acute and chronic injuries associated with different sports and activities. He has treated many elite athletes at events such as the Penticton Ironman and Beachside Volleyball Tournament in Oregon (world’s biggest amateur beach volleyball tournament).

Dr. Khoshroo’s approach is to combine chiropractic manipulative therapy, exercise, soft tissue therapy, nutrition therapy, and active rehabilitation in the most effective way to help resolve neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions such as: neck pain, low back pain, whiplash, motor-vehicle-accident, sciatica, TMD, headache, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis , joint injuries (sprain/strain), tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, myofascial trigger points (MFTPs), flat arch/high arch, among many others…
